Snapchat. This social network app may delight or confuse you, but one thing’s for sure: your guests are using it to share and connect. Here’s some basic info and easy tips to get you started or up your game.

Why Snapchat?

Why Snapchat?

A lot of people use snapchat for the fun filters and lenses that alter faces or environments (you’ve seen the pretty flower crowns, or maybe a puppy face?).

You can also share custom filters or stickers from particular events or places. That same kind of fun, on-the-fly sharing can help your restaurant connect with your guests in a different way from traditional social media.

Snapchat Stats

Snapchat Stats

71MM daily active users in North America open the app 25x a day!

Snapchat can share photos or videos. You can record up to 60 seconds of video, which will be broken up into 10-second segments.

Snapchat stories disappear after 24 hours, while photos delete after they’re viewed. But you can archive your snaps using Memories, and then download or share on other social media.

The Snap Map
On the main screen, pinch the screen with two fingers to bring up the map. This shows you where people are posting—and what they’re sharing—all over the world. This can benefit you by showing what kinds of things people are sharing when they visit your restaurant. But remember, you may not be able to see all shared snaps because of users' privacy settings.

Snap Ads
You can create 10-second video ads that will play in between stories when guests are watching their friends’ snaps. Consider this for timely promotions, new menu items, or big announcements. Visit the Snapchat website linked below to learn more.

On-Demand Filters & Location Filters
This is an ad you create that your guests can interact with at a particular time or location. You can create a short-term filter that guests add to their photos to promote a special event or offer, or base one on your location.

Snapchat Promos

  • Promote a discount for in-store Snaps. It’s an easy way to encourage guests to take photos and share with their friends!
  • Offer secret Snapchat promos. The 24-hour window creates buzz. Share codes for a free appetizer, free delivery or other discount that’s exclusive to your Snapchat followers.
